By the way, for any newcomers. The mountain of debt is approximately $167,000 of unsecured debt. Yes, I have a house and a car, but those things aren't counted here.
Things purchased with that money:
- Law school education
- Closet full of shoes that make my toes numb
- Assloads of medicine and supplements
- My eternal gratitude to my grandparents who saved me from bankruptcy and/or foreclosure when I couldn't sell the house I owned with my ex-husband when the Vegas housing market began to crumble a couple of years ago
- Amazingly beautiful hair
- Countless dinners at fine dining eateries
- Paintings that I haven't gotten around to hanging
- So, so many books (many of which I have never touched but HAD TO HAVE)
The list goes on and on. Right now, the only thing that goes onto my credit cards is medical expenses because I, quite simply, cannot afford them without incurring more debt. If you want the back story on the medical stuff, see the other blog. It is critical and necessary that I take care of my health now because I fear what will happen if I don't. But those costs have definitely created fear and panic about how I will continue things.
I do realize that I am lucky and I make a great salary. It is frightening to think that I am struggling to make things work right now. Which is why I am trying to change my behavior now, before it gets any worse.

Ya know, your quest to pay down your debt is sort of like my training.
It is constant, difficult, and not always pretty or fun. But the reward will be SWEET!
Good luck with this I know you can do it!
Oh Grasshopper, I am so impressed with you. I am glad you like some of the stuff I sent you and I am thrilled it will help. When you are done with it all you will never dig the debt hole again. The only thing harder for me was to quit smoking. And I did that 9 years ago because I was too cheap to buy cigarettes anymore. Stay stubborn about it.
When I went through the first phase I took a gallon sized zipplock and filled it with water, threw all 17 of my credit cards in and froze it im my freezer. That way if I wanted or felt I "needed" something I would have to wait a damn long time to get the card out with out mutilation or destruction.
Mandy,
Those sites rock. I'm already getting some of the samples and I love it since they come with such very generous coupons. Oh, and because I like to get mail!
Ganners sent you some nice sites. Will you share the links? Speaking of your hair: ever since I sat behind you in Property, I just loved your hair. Your hair is healthy and gorgeous. You don't need to spend a ton of bucks - your hair is naturally beautiful. But, I know it's your obsession, but just remember that nothing is more beautiful than healthy hair, with or without "regrowth." My 2 cents.
